Ottawa has something of real value to play with as part of their rebuild - 2nd line centre minutes. Da Costa has shown flashes but most would accept that he should really be in Bingo to develop his game and has only stayed because we lack alternatives and there's no real pressure to win right now. Those minutes are currently not providing a good return and could be better invested to develop another young, promising centre picked up in a trade.

I think Murray will try to make a "hockey trade" and swap some of his more established, "playing well now" players to a struggling team for an under-performing centre. 50 games x 15 TOI with Aldredsson as a line-mate in a low pressure environment could potentially establish another core asset. Possible trades:

1) Brassard for Foligno + Neil + 3rd (BlueJackets won't get the goalie they want for Brassard and may instead need to settle for fair value & help change attitudes/energy on team)

2) Bailey for Kuba (Bailey stalled in development, not scoring; Kuba playing really well - almost shocking after last year - and would help stabilize Islander defence)

3) Loktionov for Neil (Neil would be a useful piece for a team like L.A. that wants to contend now)

As part of our rebuild, it makes sense to move out older players or ones where we have duplication. With the team playing decent hockey now it would be hard to justify just getting picks in return, but also a shame to not get some value for those assets. Trading for a young, "boom/bust" centre may be the best solution here.
