Yes, it is my understanding that Hamel would normally have to clear waivers. I don't know however if an emergency recall is made (i.e. to replace an injured player - Smolinski) whether a player still has to clear waivers or not - I believe so but I'm not positive. If another team were to claim Hamel they would have to pick up $225K in salary for the year and Ottawa would have to pay the other $225K for the year. I don't think anyone would claim him off waivers, but we'll see.

Actually, the Sens website says that Hamel is "scheduled to be called up"...maybe that does mean he has to clear waivers? Or maybe we're planning to claim Koltsov off waivers from Pittsburgh?

As to why Hamel is being called up instead of Eaves - Hamel makes $450K whereas Eaves makes $942K - I'm sure that's the reason.
