The only logistical issue is the league wouldn't want to spend the money to make it happen in central park. The stands will cost a lot of $$$ among everything else.

There's a Facebook page and Brooks actually wrote about having the classic in CPK :

If they can build a rink on Sheep’s Meadow with temporary stands seating up to 20,000 — people will come. If they play the Winter Classic in New York, people will notice.
