It was Novice (Grade 2/3) House A, so naturally all the kids are going to the NHL ( ). Anyways, so there was a loose puck in front of the net, and one of the kids got in a pretty good whack at the goalie. It wasn't a penalty, just a kid doing what's natural and digging for a puck until he hears a whistle. Anyways, so I was the back official on the play. As the little kid was passing by the other teams bench, the coach yelled "You're not going to be happy if you do that again".
I immediately gave him a bench minor and was very tempted to go straight to a match but I know it's very hard to suspend a coach when the proper elevation of events (For players: 2,10,Game | Coaches: 2, Game) is not followed.
I was also reffing with a first year official who did a really good job, but as we were going to the dressing room told the kid to "read the rulebook".
THEN, there had been an incident in the previous game because of the stupid timekeeper. The time clock was wrong and said 7:11, so I was under the assumption that with a 50 minute game the last minute would of play would be 8:01. In the middle of the game, however, the timekeeper corrected the time on the clock and did not inform me. So I did not terminate the game at the time thinking that I had until 8:01, and the team scored during this time to go up by 1 and put them into the medal round. Long story short, this bozo caused the game to go into protest, and as a result caused the team to get knocked out of the tournament.
But who do you blame in that situation? The ref.
Why don't parents understand that it's just a game. I mean both of those things in my mind, are completely ridiculous.

The bolded confused me: You told the kid to read the rule book, or the kid told you?
Anyways, I don't understand what a grade 2/3 could really ever do anything to the kid that was whacking the goalie. Was the coach going to hop over the boards and fight this kid? Cause when I was in grade 2/3, I know I definitely didn't care what happened to my goalie.
The time thing suck though. Did you not feel like the game was going incredibly fast?
Parents and coaches sometime get more into then the players. I remember I was in a tourney a year ago, and the coaches were chirping each other on the bench, and the parents were chirping. We ended up winning that game. Then when our whole team was walking outside, we got confronted by their team, and they wished us luck in the rest of tournament. It was pretty classy, considering the game was pretty rough.
