i actually think that by the end of the year, we should have enough of a sample of Emelin's NHL play to make either a bigger commitment (get him signed on a 2-3 year deal), or look to trade him b/c I think your right in that he wouldn't take very kindly to just being qualified, and if his play only warrants that (or he's not established himself as a clear top-6 "every night" player), then I imagine he'd be pushing for either a trade or a return to Russia.

don't see him being eager to come back next year in a 6-7-8 type role that he came into this year, and frankly his play thus far has, imo, shown enough that suggests he'll be a consencus top-4/5 guy by the end of the season.

in that case, a 2-3 year deal in the ~1.5M$/per would seem perfectly warranted. key would be to ensure the deal ends before his UFA starts...
