I think Stapleton has played pretty well for what he is. Considering he averages 9 minutes of ice time and has been a healthy scratch for many games, his 7 points in 16 games is not bad at all. I don't know how much of that came with his opportunities on the powerplay though. The obvious downside to Stapleton is that he's a skill player who just isn't good enough to be a top-6 forward and isn't nearly physical enough to fit the traditional fourth-line checking role.
I'd say Jaffray gets the nod between those if only one stays, but I think both will. I really hope that Cormier can make the team next year and take a spot on the fourth line though.
