Yeah, thats gonna bring up morale on the team and for the player himself. I'm sure he'll come back strong with such a vote of confidence from management.
Not to mention if he does have a good 2nd half and someone was willing to trade for the declining contract/big cap hit after the season, they'd now lowball us, knowing he's going on waivers.

They must have had a plan in place last year to trade or waive him when they made the offer to Richards. Granted Richards was probably 80% going to NYR, but they would have taken him if they could. Why would they bother flying to Tonronto and meeting with his agent if they had no intention of signing him, only 10 teams did...
