Concussions - what needs to change?

One thing that needs to change is we need to eliminate the number of times our 3rd line wingers try to jump over our star players at full speed.
I feel like this would go a long way towards minimizing the problems with concussions.
In all seriousness though, that was a terrible move by Wayne Simmonds. I don't "blame" him for the incident, but he certainly could've made it a lot less lethal or potentially avoided it all together by either slowing down / stopping, turning so that impact would've been w/ a less important part of Giroux's body, or by diving over Giroux but not trying to stay on his feet... by doing this, he could've elevated his knees so they weren't @ head level w/ Giroux.
In all fairness to Simmonds though, he wasn't thinking about the ramifications... he was just trying to make sure Giroux didn't take him out of the play. He was thinking about getting back on defense to prevent an odd man rush. And that's kind of how you have to think when you're playing an NHL game.
