I think that the medical science behind concussions just isn't good enough to predict what's going to happen. The "give it more time" approach appears to me to be a back-handed way of saying... we can't do much to treat this, so we're hoping the body can repair itself given sufficient* time.

* sufficient in this circumstance is undetermined and equates to a toss at a dartboard atm.
