Depth is now a concern (LA Daily News)

Depth is now a concern

By Rich Hammond, Staff Writer

EL SEGUNDO - Throughout training camp, Kings front-office members were breathless in their enthusiasm about the team's depth, particularly at the forward positions.

At this point, however, coach Andy Murray is feeling like a man without a lot of options.

The Kings' top three tough guys - George Parros, Ryan Flinn and Jeff Cowan - all are injured and there are no obvious choices on the team's AHL affiliate to fill that role. A similar lack of NHL-ready scorers means that Murray also can't afford to replace struggling veterans, because who would take their place?

No there are no obvious choices in Manchester. Maybe there will be in a season or two when the rookies are further along.

From today's LA Times:

Murray said that the Kings would recall a player from Manchester, which probably would be forward Jeff Giuliano, although Murray said that forward Petr Kanko was also a possibility.

I'd probably go with both Giuliano and Kanko. Use Kanko in the Caps game Wednesday, if it goes well with Kanko then consider using him again against the Ducks and Yotes over the weekend. If it doesn't go so well, Giuliano is already in town...
