Speaking as a purist who favours only modest changes, I would rather see them shrink the neutral zone by moving the blue lines closer together, and move the nets back a bit. They would have to take out the red line, as well.(although not for icing).

A shootout at the end of the game, I reluctantly admit, would be pretty cool.
