You wrongly assume that the revenue generated will remain the same whether Gomez plays in Montreal or in Hamilton.

For argument's sake, let's assume that Gomez is demoted and that the money is used to get Parise. This change alone could justify yet another ticket price increase. It would also probably help generate revenue from jersey sales. Finally, Parise instead of Gomez would greatly increase the odds of making the playoffs, which are incredibly profitable for the owners of the team.

There is no way that Molson views burying Gomez as a net $10M loss.
