I'd like to see us acquire Stephen Weiss from FLA. He is only 22 and makes under 700k. He is a quick two-way center from what I've seen and has excellent playmaking skills. Yes, he is under 6' tall, but in the new NHL and with our forechecking/defensive system, I think speed and smarts are at a premium and Weiss has both.

I could see him coming in and playing on the top line in Legwand's absence and then moving down to replace Perreault upon #11's return.

I don't think this would be a 1 for 1 deal...maybe something like Erat and a prospect that seems to have stalled (ie: Shishkanov) for Weiss and a similiar prospect (ie: Nedorost) or more likely Erat and a mid-round pick (3rd or 4th round).

This would serve be both a short and long term solution to the center depth without "breaking the bank" IMO. Personally, I'm not that upset with Legwand at center...but even so...Weiss can easily grow into a top-line center and bump Legwand down to the second line as soon as next season.

What are your thoughts?
