Poor Andrew Gordon. He toils for years in the AHL in Washington's system, but Bruce Boudreau always chooses other players over him. He signs with Anaheim, wins a job out of camp with the Ducks, plays regularly. Then Washington fires Randy Carlyle and hires...Bruce Boudreau. One month later...Gordon on waivers on his way to the AHL.

Also, this isn't really clearing any roster slots for the Ducks. Smaby was on IR since the preseason and has to clear to be sent to the AHL. Gordon is likely being cleared because they either A) Want to bring up one of their AHLers over him (Kyle Palmieri, Brandon McMillan, Peter Holland) or B) Are getting Mark Fraser back from his conditioning stint in the AHL C)It could also have something to do with the WJHC ending and Devante Smith-Pelly being "officially" back on the roster.
