It only makes a difference in the playoffs, so it doesn't have much effect anyways, and it's not any different than how it is now.
There's other teams that have to travel even more than Detroit through out the course of a season. Look at Dallas and Colorado. Look at how Tampa and Florida get screwed.
There are 30 teams in this league. It's not fair to create a format based on what's best for North Eastern teams. There's a clear biased here.
