The main problem with that trade (beyond the fact that I don't think Toronto is prepared to trade Schenn unless it's for a centre), is that it doesn't work in isolation.

Let's say they do this trade -- they're now left with Kessel, Lupul, Kulemin, MacArthur, JvR and Armstrong all under control next year. That leaves no spot for Kadri, Lombardi, and burns an extremely valuable defensive asset without getting a centre. Sure, they could then try to flip wingers for a centre, but Toronto has some resemblance to a winning team. Is it really worth blowing the entire thing up?

They problably should, but don't exactly have a ton to give up. If it can be done for Komisarek+...then forsure. Other than that I don't think the Leafs want to substantially increase their age.
