Hayes was dealt as a throw-in in the deal so we could secure Sweatt.
Hayes wanted to play with his brother who was a part of the Hawks organization, and the Hawks couldn't sign Sweatt.
Burke thought he would be able to ink Sweatt who would have been a bottom 6 player with lots of speed and some skill.
Problem is, that Sweatt decided he wouldn't sign so he could sign with Vancouver, so he too, could be with his brother.
Then Burke signed Mueller.
So essentially, in an indirect way Hayes became Mueller. Mueller has nice size and is progressing well with the Marlies.
