Considering that our leading scorer with the Phantoms is Pat Kavanaugh, I'm also going to give Ruzicka the benefit of the doubt. I think the Phantoms as a whole were going to tank this year simply because of the number of players who were moved up to the Flyers. That's fine. If Ruzicka can get 15 to 20 goals and learn to play a bit of a defensive game, then that's a success. I'll wait for the following season to see what he can do with someone like Potulny centering him. Ruzicka is probably going to be one of those guys who is going to need someone with half decent hands to feed him the puck. Once again, another guy I'm going to hold out hope on simply because we've had some luck with Slovakian players in our organization. I also think having someone like Scurko play with Ruzicka will also bring the best out in him.
i like Eager a LOT. that doesn't mean he's going to be a first-line player for a contending team. i do think he could develop into an extremely effective third-line player for a contending team... he makes some nice plays, and the best thing about him is that he stays within his means... he doesn't do the Brashear and try to make dangerous passes/plays. this is what i always liked about Fedoruk as well... played within himself. knew his role and performed in it.
Eager struggles mightily whenever he's pressured on the puck... he's good at going in, taking the body, and coming away with the puck... but if he's then in a position where he has to make a play with the puck he struggles. will he improve at that? sure. not enough to be someone i want playing with the guy that should be our leading goal-scorer in the future.
Potulny should be put at the wing IMMEDIATELY. if one of Ruzicka/Potulny can develop into a sniper winger then that will be fantastic... if both develop into that role all the better. however, with our current group of players... Potulny shouldn't have a spot with the Flyers on the top two lines up the middle, but could have one at one of the wings. also, Potulny doesn't look like a great passer... more of a shooter, so probably wouldn't be a huge boost to Ruzicka.
