Intent to injure is an inference. You can't get inside a guy's head. You see the hit, and the best you can do is make a judgment as to his intent. But it's still just speculation.

Recklessness, on the other hand, is not an inference. It's observable. And I think it deserves just as severe a suspension. "I didn't mean to hurt 'em" is a 3rd grade excuse. If you are an NHLer, you are responsible for your actions, whether or not you had malicious intent. That kind of hit can paralyze a guy, and if you're too stupid or uncaring to not know that, that's too bad. The consequences should be just as severe.
