Rutherford has also mentioned an interest in "hockey trades", as in... forwards that were locked up beyond this season at a reasonable rate financially even if they were "veteran" forwards. I wouldn't be surprised to see a player who has been typecast as a third or fourth line player that has some upside to him playing limited minutes on a deep unit being the target for Carolina. I would think a player like that would be of more interest at our current stage than a straight up prospect who could take a couple of years to contribute. We already have a ton of guys on the cusp of the AHL and NHL that just need roles. It wouldn't shock me to see Carolina go after a veteran provided he was locked up beyond this season and perhaps even beyond next season.
