The thing, IMO, that will determine how good Jay Bouwmeester becomes is how nasty he plays. The guy is huge and extremely mobile, he could be an excellent shutdown defenseman if he can play with more of a mean streak. I've heard people compare him to Pronger as far as upside goes, and that doesn't seem unreasonable to me, although I haven't yet seen the same fire in Bouwmeester.

Regardless, he'll be an anchor on the blueline for many years to come.
