Markov is a great player when he's healthy but we can't count on him to stay that way. We should plan for him not being here. That's would be the smart way to prepare for our next season. If he plays all 82 games... great! So much the better. But we can't keep assuming he's going to be back in the lineup and then making patchwork fixes when he doesn't return.
Guys like Markov don't grow on trees. It's not like saying you want to plan in case AK or Gill gets hurt. There are only 10 guys in the NHL who can control a game from the blueline like Markov.
