I just got back from the game (first this year). I'll try and give my best impressions, but I had my 4 year old daughter with me so I couldn't concentrate on the match-ups, etc as much as I'd like to have.
Hamilton looked small compared to the Chicago lineup but lots of determined physical play by our guys seemed to even things out (wonder if this approach could help the big club?)
Players that impressed:
Three or four players stood out for me, Gratton was all over the ice, and deserved where he ended up on the scoresheet. It's plain to see why he own's the 'C'. I'd like to see him get another chance in Montreal with some decent linemates. His first goal was a thing of beauty. Dagenais impressed the hell out of me; he really got involved and worked hard, I think we'll be seeing him sooner rather than later in Montreal . Beauchemin and Cote were great, both looked strong and and smart with the puck. I think there's a good chance we'll see one of these guys up before we ever see Traverse back. Olvestad was also very good, hitting everything.
Not stand-outs tonight
Aside from the game winning goal, Plekanec wasn't anywhere to be seen all night, except for the dumb penalty late in the 3rd. He looks great when he has the puck, but without it , it's a couple of strides, then just gliding on the periphery. Komi looked like he could have gotten involved more. I wish he'd try and make more happen, buit he looks tentative and a. Milroy showed up, but late.
Lehtonen made some great saves, otherwise the Dogs would have walked away with this one.
