His confidence has got to be zero and a little bit of production at the AHL level might be the tonic he needs. I happen to think he's finished, but why not try the minor league treatment? It certainly couldn't hurt.
I'd honestly be a bit surprised if he weren't somewhat depressed by his performance. Anyone with one iota of pride would be. Hopefully, he's not deeply depressed. That's dangerous territory. But it wouldn't be altogether surprising.
Ironically, Gomez had his career year after the lockout year. He spent that year in the ECHL:

Right because sending a once great player to the minors would boost his confidence, the only thing that would do is ruin his career further.
