We traded two great young players for an under-rated, undersized player who is 3 years older than Simmonds and makes just over 3 times as much. The deal depleted Manchester, Schenn would either be down there killing it or in LA playing on the left wing to Stoll or Loktionov. Simmonds would look good on that 3rd line as well.

Trading Schenn does not 'deplete' Manchester. He's one player.
I'd also like to know how comforting that great 3rd line with Simmonds would be if we didn't have our leading goalscorer in our already drastically underperforming top six?

Can you imagine without the Richards deal and the horrible deals of Penner, Purcell and letting go Moulson?
Moulson-Kopitar-Williams
Gagne-Stoll-Brown
Purcell-Schenn-Simmonds
Clifford-Fraser-Richardson/Lewis
And we would still have a 2nd round pick and Teubert in Manchester.
So Gagne is still hurt, fine shift Lewis up or call up Loktionov and move Schenn to 2nd line LW.

That line up is downright brutal. Some nice upside with Schenn, etc. but overall brutal in terms of what kind of production we'd get now. Also, if we had no DL, you wouldn't have Williams, Stoll, Fraser, Richardson or Lewis as those all came as a direct result of trades.

It's a big IF, but if Winnipeg was going to move Evander Kane, I'd try to pry Blake Wheeler (or Bryan Little) with him for Dustin Brown.

Kane and Wheeler/Little for Brown? Come on Ziggy, you're smarter than that.

I still go for Carter, ball out. No way Howson's askes for even close to that much for Carter since they seem to want him out of there ASAP. I'd assume they are focusing on Voynov for Carter type deal with a pick or soemething else going Columbus' way as well.
For those concerned about Carter's 4 hits in 30 games, I'm not. First, yes he is a goalscorer, so he's not meant to bang and grind. Secondly though, if you go back and look at his time in Philly, he had 52 hits in 2007-2008, 54 in 2008-2009, 60 in 2009-2010 and 65 last year. It was actually going up each season.
Now he comes to a new team, with a new system and has a shoulder injury and you are surprised that his hits are down? I'm not. Hits first off are a subjective stat, so it will change from team to team, and secondly they seem to only indicate something not right with him physically, not an overall trend for his career or his style of game.
