DEL and Nürnberg planning "Winter Classic"

This is older news, but still interesting. The rumored venue is Easy Credit Stadium (fits around 44,000 for the World Cup) and an opponent isn't named yet.

English Translation:

The German Hockey League (DEL) is planning together with the Nuremberg DEL-club Thomas Sabo Ice Tigers a reinvestment of the World Championship opening game of 2010. At that time nearly 78,000 fans flocked into Veltins-Arena (Gelsenkirchen).

This time the Easy Credit Stadium in Nuremberg* should be the venue for the purpose of a Winter Classic on January 5, 2013. “An open air game has already been on the wish list of the DEL for a long time. Together with our extremely committed club the Thomas Sabo Ice Tigers we would like to now allow our wish to come true und provide our fans a cool experience”, explained DEL executive director* Gernot Tripcke.

Thomas Sabo, owner and name giver of the Ice Tigers: “We are excited that we could organize such a spectacular event in Nuremberg for the hockey fans and we hope we can get many other people interested in our sport.”
