Something interesting I wanted to look into after Burke's comments about how every team acquires players to go for the Cup, but only one team wins. This is a look at the players each team acquired in the last 15 years for the run up to their Cup win who also contributed to the win (played in at least half of the playoffs):

2011 Bruins: Kelly, Peverly, Kaberle
2010 Blackhawks: none
2009 Penguins: Kunitz, Guerin, Adams
2008 Red Wings: Stuart
2007 Ducks: May
2006 Hurricanes: Weight, Recchi
2004 Lightning: Sydor
2003 Devils: Marshall, Rheaume
2002 Red Wings: none
2001 Avalanche: Blake, Reinprecht
2000 Devils: Lemieux, Mogilny, Malakhov
1999 Stars: Hogue
1998 Red Wings: Macoun
1997 Red Wings: Sandstrom, Murphy
1996 Avalanche: Ozolinsh, Keane, Roy

So, with the exception of the 02 Wings and 10 Hawks, every team acquired players of varying impact. I only bring this up to say that we need to do something here coming up to the deadline. It's the rare team that has no use for a new acquisition.
