is DD a #1 cause he happens to center our make shift #1 line ?

He and Gorges have been one of the best D-pairings in the league this season, they are both PLUS defenseman playing on a team that is in the hunt for a lottery pick. If that doesn't tell you what level Subban really plays at, I don't know what will.

His offensive production has been slowed this season, but keep in mind he has far more defensive assignments as well. His ES strength production is nearly identical as to what it was this time last season. It's been the terrible PP that's limited his offensive production, and that's the effect of not having a proper point partner that can compliment Subban's style and ineffective coaching strategies to bolster what we have. Lately they've incorporated the forwards more and it's been working.

There is a very small sample of defenseman in this league I'd take over Subban for the future. Very very small.
