Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy - Not sure that Cherry should have been playing the game at all.

Additionally, once detected (if he didn't die) he probably would have had to retire from playing the game.

Part of treating this disorder is lifestyle changes such as:

Exercise. Your doctor will discuss exercise guidelines with you. Most people with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy are able to participate in noncompetitive aerobic activities. Heavy weight lifting and many high-intensity sports are not recommended.

By the sounds of it, Cherry would have never made an impact for the Rangers regardless if he lived.

Very sad that he passed away.
