IF there is an amnesty buyout, teams will likely have the option of buying out one player without any cap penalties. If this is the case, the choice is clearly Gomez.

I really don't get why we would buy out Gionta. He's been our leading goal scorer when healthy and is our captain and has been very good in the playoffs. Remember, he's a traditional slow starter and got injured before he could find his game this year. Are we really going to get anything better for 5 mil in free agency? I'd rather hang onto him than replace him by someone we'd sign in free agency who'd likely be at least as overpaid and for longer term or replace him by a prospect who's not ready.
