Z, Hodgson very much does have the potential to become a 35-35 #1 center in this league.
I think he tops out as a 25-60 type as you and JJ both said, but the potential is definitely there for more. Hodgson could have been a top 5 pick in his draft year. He fell because of how stacked the top 6 was for d-men (Doughty, Pietrangelo, Bogosian, Schenn) and some question marks taken in front of him (Boedker, Bailey).
The potential is there.
While Hodgson didn't play much, the most impressive stat I've looked at is his 13 giveaways in 63 games.
By current sabres "centers," or players that have played there this year:
Ennis has 12, in 28 games.
McCormick has 8, in 38 games (and is a 4th line grinder).
Ellis has 7, in 52 games (see McCormick).
Leino has 17, in 51 games.
Hecht has 14, in 22 games.
Adam has 16, in 52 games.
Boyes has 17, in 47 games.
Gaustad had 23, in 56 games.
Roy has 41, in 60 games.
Adding a player with a HIGH HOCKEY IQ is key. Although I will note that the low minutes plays a role, as does differences in system.
We got us a good player. A gamer.
