The reason I would do this deal is because I would rather put my Stanley Cup eggs in a proven playoff veteran goalie's basket than in a guy's basket whom, so far, has pretty well stunk in the playoffs.
For the Canucks, this IS THE YEAR to go for the Cup.
Next year, drop Cujo, trade Cujo or just buy him out and go with an Auld/Hedberg tandem for a year or two until Auld, who is the goalie of the Canuck's future, can take over full time.
So trade Cloutier, Reid, and Umberger for someone who is on the downside of his career so he can play one season and then be dumped?
Cujo has never won a cup and has had alot more chances than Cloutier. Cloutier showed he could win in the playoffs last year in big games. I'm not saying Cloutier is one of the best keepers in the league or anything, but you are severly overrating Cujo if you think he is a significant upgrade over Cloutier. He used to be but isn't anymore.
Anyhow, lets not get into the Cloutier Joseph debate. It is subjective only. It is however stupid to deal a #1 goalie who is young and getting better with many years left and 2 prospects for a guy who will play one season, especially if that player has been regressing over the last couple seasons.
