I don't think that's true in the least. You look at the team and knew that two of those guys were going, there was simply too much cap space occupied by those four. If there wasn't a cap, we wouldn't have seen Forsberg in orange and black, simple as that.

I'd just like to add that they moved the right guys. Sakic is the captain, he's better on faceoffs, is better of a goal scorer, and is more consistently healthy. Had they kept Forsberg they would have lost Blake and Foote which would have decimated their bluline, there wasn't a guy on the market that could have replaced that hole. Passing on Foote was better because Blake is just as physical, just as good defensively, and brings more of an offensive upside to the table.
