the owners need to take care of themselves and not expect the players to take the responsibilty for it.

the mechanics to do this are in the current CBA, thats what the players are saying.

Going back to the players initial offer, it would appear that the NHLPA are taking some responsibility for fixing the problems in the NHL. They have made significant concessions, opening up negotiations to some sort of artificial salary controls (i.e. a cap or tax).

Like Trottier said, it may not be fair, but the players seem to recognize that some change is necessary in order to ensure the long-term health of the game, even if that change requires a sacrifice on their part.
