over $5 million total and both will be up for free agency were not renting were trying to improve our team for the long term we can not trade an asset like Comrie for temporary assets which we can not keep and be stuck with nothing left after they serve their contracts, that's not how Edmonton operates.
If the Sharks are willing to totally rebuild (meaning 2 of Rathje Damphousse and Ricci are traded) then I suggest the following (I never make these pie in the sky proposals).....

Damphousse to New Jersey for Berglund (trading deadline)
Ricci to Vancouver for Umberger and Mojzis or striaght up for Chubarov
Keep Rathje and extend his contract
Marleau, Kiprusoff and Hannan to Edmonton for Comrie, Rita, Pouliot Ferguson and a second round pick

San Jose would then have six good young centres, Edmonton would cover off their issues at Centre and D, Vancouver and New Jersey get some experience for the playoffs. Can add and adjust but if I was San Jose I would think about something this drastic. Losing ricci for nothing would be plain dumb and Marleau needs a change of scenery. Edmonton cannot affod to *****foot around with their D and centre ice problems

Sturm Comrie Cheechoo
Rita Chubarov Berglund
Thornton Mccauly Michalek
Boyes Pouliot Dmitrakos

Primeau, Korolyuk etc...

Good young top 3 lines with a shot at a superstar in the next draft and still a solid young D and good goalies

Smyth Horcoff/Stoll Hemsky
York Marleau Dvorak
Torres Horcoff/Stoll Isbister
BG Chimera Pisani

Reasoner, Moreau, Salmelainen, Niinimaki as depth swaps.....

Better D and great young forwards....possible new starting goalie

Naslund Morrison Bertuzzi
Sedin Sedin King
Arvedson Ricci Linden
Cooke/May Lindgren Ruutu/Cooke

A group of forwards that could win a cup and the potential to re-sign Ricci at post CBA numbers

New Jersey dumps Gomez for a guy like Kobasew on Calgary and takes another run at the cup.

Everyone happy except this year's season ticket holders in San Jose.

I know...I am a genius!!!!!!!!!!!!!
