I can see "switch hitting" having some usefulness if you want to change sides, for example moving from LD to RD and switching hands to take better advantage of your angles.

That said, a much better way to approach this is to bring both right- and left-handed sticks to the bench and swap them as necessary. The chances of switching hands mid-shift are slim to none, and you're sacrificing a lot of your effectiveness with the puck.
