The problem is McCabe has been noticable in a negative way since his return. It's really hard to pin the losing streak all on his injury when Tucker came back and we got a point, and have stayed the course since him AND McCabe have been in the line-up. I don't disagree that he is a good D-man with excellent (likely the best) stats, but he isn't a top 5 D-man in this league. His game isn't well as complete as a Pronger, Lidstrom, or even a Leetch.
As for the untouchable list, take Tucker and Sundin off. I love'em both, and would want ALOT in return, but they could be had.
First off McCabe is a better offensive player than any of the guy's you mentioned. This season he is blowing the doors off everyone but Redden. His defensive game is not at the Pronger Lidstrom level, but his ice time and plus minus stats on an inferior team are the same. So his defensive game is not that far off.
McCabe's 27 minutes of average ice since he came back is not a negative for the team and the results a tie and a win against two good teams is not surprising. The losing started when McCabe went out not when Tucker went out.
