If I were to gauge what salary range this year's crop of free agents are to receive, I'd venture to guess the following numbers for some of the more attractive free agent forwards:

Zach Parise: 7 or more years at $6.8-7M
Shane Doan: 5 to 6 years at $5.5-6M
Alex Semin: 4 to 5 years at $6-6.5M
Ray Whitney: 1 to 2 years at $3.5-4M
PA Parenteau: 3 to 4 years at $3.5-4M
Kristian Huselius: 2 to 3 years at $4-4.5M
Jiri Hudler: 3 to 4 years at $3-3.5M

Of all of the above players listed, I'd rather gamble on a 39 year old Ray Whitney on a shorter term deal. He's consistently healthy and has never been plagued by injuries and he continues to put up big points. The last time he had less than 50 points was back in 2003-04. In the past three years he's put up 58, 57 and has 61 points this season.
