Yeah the above is correct. This is generally how college free agent signings work. The contracts are signed for the next season and while they CAN be signed for the rest of the current season, O'Neill isn't. Same situation with the Sens Cole Schneider. He signed a two year deal but is also in the AHL on a try out and his contract will start next season.
