The 2003 Hamilton team has been completely revamped and allowed the Habs to play more of their prospects and this is a good thing as the Habs were able to draft much better talent the past few years. I can see a few callups during the year and the new players on this team (Ferland, Perez, Higgins...) improve and play a bigger part. In my mind this team should be able to compete very well even though they are a very young team with alot of the players playing their 1st year in the A.
Looking forward to 2004 we should be able to have a Hamilton team without any TB prospects or NHL-vets that cant cut it (ie Traverse) as more players will make the move from juniors to the AHL. On the other hand I foresee either Pleks or Higgins to make the jump to the NHL level next year. Also I dont see Hainsey or Komi playing in the AHL next year either.
There are alot of questions around players that are currently in Europe and developing nicely where you wonder if they should keep developing in Europe or should they make the move over to NA. These are the players of interest:
should be coming over next year
is he too small for NA?
a nice surprise pick...would be able to play in the A
does he need another few years before he comes over again?
currently has top ranking for goalies on Habs depth chart
like Puurula nice late pick
Lets say all of them made it over to NA (which is very unlikely) we could look forward to playing the following team in Hamilton next year:
Kastsitsyn Higgins/Pleks Perezhogin
Lambert Urquhart Balej
Stewart Locke Milroy
Larivee Lapierre Ferland
If we want a tough 4th line you can insert Bonneau and Deveaux
What are your thoughts on our AHL team for next year, especially around players that will make it to the NHL and players that will make the jump from Europe/juniors.
