The Rangers need him to be a part of the Rangers for the next decade more than they need him for the final 20 games or so (or whatever the number will be).

The Flames didn't rush Phaneuf. Likewise, the Rangers should not rush Staal. To ask him to make the transition from juniors to playing against grown men in the best league in the world during a push for the playoffs is just asking too much.
