Tom Benjamin's theory over on Canucks' Corner (which makes sense to me) is that nobody wanted Wiemer's 1.6 mil contract to play limited minutes as a checker, and that Milbury had to move him in order to make room for Weinhandl.
The Isles have made some foolish moves over the past decade, but slashing payroll at the cost of diminishing their on-ice capability just doesn't make sense, given the size and duration of Yashin's contract.
