It's been a long time and don't trust me completely on this but I believe the Rangers asked about Bergeron when he was still coaching the Nords.

In any event, they had to give up a small compensation for him to become coach. I had never heard of anything like that at the time. I believe Esposito was the Rangers GM. He has always been a "special" guy with out-of-the-ordinary moves.

I don't think the Nords were actively shopping their coach, however. In fact, I doubt such a thing has ever happened and it would spell disaster.
