He had first round skill (which is saying something considering he was drafted 32 overall in that crazy 2008 defensemen draft year...we basically got a Tyler Myers for the 32nd pick). He only fell to the second round because teams thought he might go play in the KHL or something, not come over to the NHL full time. That's where Lombardi really exceeded other GMs...in just doing the work, both to get Loktionov and Voynov, especially since he's "known" for drafting North American boys. Our scouts told DL he was good as did many scouts tell their teams' GM. Same with DL getting Moulson, Purcell and O'Sullivan. Just doing the homework...two of those guys have become good players, one didn't but still...the fact that DL brought those guys, especially the first two, into the organization in the first place says something.

What impressed me about Voynov the most is how he handled this year...there was no public whining, pouting, outbursts or quitting on the ice. Every time he was up here, he made his argument with his fine, well ahead of the curve, play.
