A good reason for trying to hold on to that 1st draft pick is maneuverability. For instance draft day trades--going up or going down. As for what the Rangers need now--I'd say it was a regular d-man preferably with size and grit. Maybe an all purpose forward again with size and some smarts. We're not necessarily going to have to trade that particular 1st rd, draft pick to pick up players like that. We will certainly have to go into our stash of picks and prospects to pay for it but if we don't have a whole ton of great prospects we certainly have a number of pretty good ones. One would think though that certain prospects aren't going anywhere. I would expect at least that trade for a blueliner in the next several days and we'll see from there how it all works out. Fact is though with the earlier deadline there's only so much that planning can do for you. After the deadline you're going to need the luck to stay healthy or these moves won't probably do you any good anyways.
