Proof that first rounders aren't that valuable

What is written below means nothing. So there were a few players who panned out. I never said everyone fails.
However, many of them were drafted in late rounds. You can get high-risk, high-return players in mid-rounds. Some of them will turn into Marc Savard. Others will turn into Bryan Swanson. But you can get these players with 2-7 round picks. If you draft a few high-risk players in later rounds, 1 out of a few will make it. That's great, but that doesn't make a late first round, a single pick, all that valuable.
Also, going forward, do you expect that the Rangers will have a perfect drafting record, as if they had 20-20 vision?
Were all these players below picked by the same team? No. Every now and then a team gets lucky and stumbles onto someone who good, but wasn't drafted inside the lottery. So? It doesn't mean you can expect it.
The expected place for a late first rounder is... the AHL and Europe. And if you don't believe me, go look at past picks at 20-30. Not just NYR. All teams. The vast majority of late first rounders aren't regular NHLers.

now i realize that hindsight is 20/20 but just for the sake of arguement lets say that instead of picking more, mallette, rice, stewart, ferraro, sundstrom, dube, cherneski, malhotra, lundmark, brendl, novak, blackburn and falardeau the rangers drafted joe sakic, rob blake, nicklas lidstrom, keith tkachuk, mike peca, todd bertuzzi, patrik elias, mike leclerc, zdeno chara, brenden morrow, simon gagne, barrett jackman, nick boynton, jm liles, ales hemsky, and matt stajan.
would you still consider those picks to not be valuable if we got that 2nd list of players??
