I thought that only rich teams could become elite by spending money? Funny how the two teams that you mention above did those actions while playing in outdated arenas.

I disagree with saying that Colorado spent money when they traded for Roy. They might have signed him to a contract extension but they also shipped out players like Chris Simon to pay for it.

An easy situation might be to tell me what teams can't become elite in the NHL. If we're trying to save someone, let's just figure out who we have to save.
