very few dmen step right out of Junior and into a prominent NHL role, even fewer that aren't/weren't "blue chip" top 5-10 picks. Subban did it, but he's clearly more of an exception than the rule.
Much prefer having a guy like Jackman or Stuart locked up for 2-4 years, allowing those young guys lot's of time to develop in the AHL and slowly get brought up to NHL roles over that span.

Agree with this except for the Subban line. He played a year in the AHL.
