Languish? Was Gainey languishing on the checking line? How about Jarvis? How about McPhee, when played on line 3 with Carbo for about 5 years?

The checking line is not a place to put your rejects. It is an important line, and on many nights, it is THE MOST important line. That we've abandoed this notion is the one of the reasons that we are shadows of past Hab teams, which put a huge emphasis on shutting down top opposiiton lines with high quality players who could chip in a goal now and then.

Detroit, arguably the best team over the past decade, has had a solid checking line in place every year. Have Draper and Maltby "languished" all of those years?
