The Oilers organization has been less-than-thrilled with the way Jason Smith went about "negotiating" contracts in years past and, IMO, Staios and to a lesser extent Cory Cross have been annointed his replacements as the veteran elder statesmen on the Oilers blue line.

What this does from my perspective is spell the end of Smith as an Oiler, either by the deadline or (in the event that they are performing well, top 6 in the West) by draft day.

I'm not so sure. I think this is more of an indication that next year Salo will not be back with Edmonton. That's where the Staois money will come from imo. Our top 6 doesn't look so bad for the future now
